Camp Fire USA, Teen Mentor Program kicks off its second year.
Macomb, MI- Camp Fire USA, Wathana Council announces the start of year two for the Teen Mentor Program in Macomb County. Teens from area high schools including East Detroit High School, Conner Creek Academy East and Utica High School will mentor youth from local elementary schools. Teen Mentors will work to help young people build character and life skills through exposure to fun activities, projects and events. They will help develop social competencies, planning, leadership, and decision-making skills, as well as activities related to participants' individual interests. Mentors will gain valuable experience in youth development and leadership while obtaining service-hours and a personal letter of recommendation.
Our first program, of the year, will kick-off on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at Conner Creak Academy East in Roseville. High school students will meet with elementary students to play games, learn about each other, and create a time capsule. The program typically lasts 1-1½ hours a week.
Camp Fire USA is starting Teen Mentor Programs throughout all of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. If you are interested in starting a Teen Mentor Program in your school or community or for more information please contact Camp Fire USA at 1-800-860-5640 or e-mail us at mentor@wathana.org.
